I really like the SpellingCity site. I plan on using it next year for tests, either when they go to computer with Mrs. Jandreau or else find time each week to go to the computer lab. The Teach Me and Game options I think can be useful.

Cap Stone Session

I was able to learn more about various tools that I am currently using, and other ways to use them. I am excited about the possible uses of Thinkfinity and Spelling City along with other sites. I need to work to figure out how I can tie I-Google, Wiki, and Blogs together and what is best to use for each educational opportunity. Great conference!

Dare to Insprire: Be the Teacher You Always Admired

I decided to go a session not related to technology, I didn't want to get bogged down with too many tech ideas. This has been a great session.
-Young people need models, not teachers
-The quickest way for a parent to get a child's attention is to sit down and look comfortable.
-Its not cool, it's cruel.
-Help teach empathy.
-http://www.funnyplace.org/ cool website videos
-If children have a strong family their role-model is their older brother or sister, mom or dad. If they do not have a strong family it is a sports star, actor, etc.

Students don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. When asked about your favorite teacher, is it the subject/grade level that you remember or the character of the individual? Teachers who successfully connect with students are able to get students excited about learning. Teaching character education comes from modeling responsibility, ethics and respect. Come and find out how to turn character education into higher achieving students.

Using I-Google in the Classroom

I-Google-Elizabeth J. Vogt
I am in the second afternoon sesson about I-google. I am excited to learn more about this. I have using it my classrooms this year with great success. The students seem to really enjoy creating thier own I-google accounts. There are so many other google applications that I want to try to implement in my classes. I am thinking I need to work with Mr. Lehr to get all my students for next year a k-12 email account. They can use that email account with I-Google applications.

This might be the best way to save and organize the various websites I have accumulated.

This site is very similar to Net Trekker, only free and possibly better. I will need research and use to see what is best. I really like the lessons, and the high quality content. All content created by experts. I love the ability to link up the students version of the lesson called E-Sheets.

Keynote Alan November

Just finished with Monday morning Keynote session. Alan November was the speaker. It was a great presentation and gave me some interesting ideas to possibly practice in my classroom. Interesting he story he told about the American Revolution and "the shot heard round the world." As it turns out the the Colonists were very intoxicated, came out a tavern and shot at the Redcoats marching by in a parade. Since they were so drunk they missed. This is British History story. I will have to research it more when I have time.
